| Music in the Caribbean |
| Welcome to our Music pages, where
you’ll find related listings from our database, divided into sections
(see links above). If you are looking for a particular item, and do not
wish to scroll through the section listings, please use the Search feature
included on this page. Items in our listings feature basic information for all viewers. We also have additional information in the form of pictures, film clips, related articles and other documents, which can be accessed in full by subscribers. Caribbean music production/performance is perhaps the region’s best known ‘cultural product’ and the area with the most supporting infrastructure in place. Genres range from the well known calypso, reggae, soca, zouk etc to classical, pop, military and folk music. Caribbean rhythms reflect the cultural diversity of the people, and there is a constant mixing of traditional and modern influences in the popular musics of the region. The Caribbean has contributed the steel pan instrument to the world, via Trinidad & Tobago. We have made a start with compiling information for our listings, and encourage readers to contribute to our fund of knowledge by sending us more information and materials. |
