As with other areas of artistic work, the literature of the Caribbean reflects the wide diversity of cultures and concerns evident in Caribbean life and the unique history of the region. Poets, novelists and playwrights have enjoyed international recognition, particularly in the last few decades, and the region boasts two Nobel Laureates in Literature (V.S. Naipaul and Derek Walcott), several other major writers of worldwide repute, and a host of talented young writers in all genres.
